Shelling Persists at Thai-Cambodia Border Despite Trump’s Ceasefire Appeal
SISAKET, Thailand / PHNOM PENH, July 27 (Reuters)
Tensions flared once again along the Thailand-Cambodia border on Sunday as both nations accused each other of launching fresh artillery strikes in disputed territory. This escalation came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that leaders from both countries had agreed to pursue a ceasefire.
Cambodian officials stated that they fully supported Trump’s appeal for an immediate halt to the violence. Meanwhile, Thailand expressed appreciation for the U.S. involvement but stressed it could not proceed with ceasefire talks while Cambodian forces were allegedly attacking Thai civilians — a claim Cambodia firmly denied.
