US Proposes a 60-day Ceasefire With Gaza Plan Shows

Gaza News Update

A US program for Gaza that was reported through Reuters on Friday suggests an agreement for a ceasefire lasting 60 days and it would allow the freeing of Israeli hostages, dead and alive within the first week, and the release of the 125 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to death as well as the remains of 180 deceased Palestinians.

The plan, which states it is backed through US president Donald Trump and mediators Egypt and Qatar and Qatar, also includes a plan to send aid to Gaza when Hamas accepts an agreement to cease fire.

The agreement stipulates it is expected that Hamas is expected to release its remaining 30 hostages when an unabated ceasefire has been put in place.

The White House said on Thursday that Israel has signed a deal with the US for a ceasefire plan. The Palestinian militant group Hamas has informed Reuters that it was looking into the plan and would take a decision on Friday or Saturday.

Wide-ranging disagreements among Hamas as well as Israel have stopped previous efforts to revive a ceasefire that was dissolved in March.

Israel has demanded that Hamas cease all weapons and be eliminated as a political and military force. Israel has also insisted that all the 58 hostages being held in Gaza have to be released before the group can agree to stop the conflict.

Hamas has resisted the call to surrender its weapons, and has stated that Israel must withdraw their troops from Gaza and pledge to end the conflict.

Israel started its offensive in Gaza in reaction to the devastating Hamas attack on southern Israel on the 7th of October 2023. The attack killed around 1200 people, and took 251 Israelis hostage and taken into Gaza according to Israeli statistics.

The Israeli military attack has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials, and has left Gaza badly damaged.
